Frankly, that's not going to happen for a working mom.

My daughter used to have eczema which I treated with the Dr.'s recommendations for Aquaphor and Eucerin. The petroleum filled up her cracks for a few days and it looked better, but the moment the alcohol in the creams dried up, we were back at square one with red rashy skin.

I thought of buying stock in the companies that made the creams, but then realized they not only didn't improve her skin, they were making the problem worse.

Desperate for a more holistic approach, I read online about the chemicals in detergents, and changed to a non-toxic label.

The problem disappeared almost immediately. I started to purge all of the soaps, toxic cleaners, and chemical sludge in our cabinets. I purchased all new toxic-free products and soon realized I was paying double in cleaning supplies.

This is when I started to research DIY recipes. If you're like me, DIY sounds like a great idea until lI'm halfway in, then I end up wishing I had an assistant to do it for me.

I can't say that I've transitioned to making all of my own home products, but this easy homemade laundry soap is a no-brainer. My kids have been making it since they were 4 years old. The measurements are easy, they don't have to be any where near perfect, and there is no cooking involved. We call it our science experiment, cooking project, or chore depending on their desire for the day.

Choose a bar of soap with a clean fragrance like Tea Tree, Lavender, or Peppermint and you will have an easy homemade laundry soap in 5 minutes.

The best part is you will save money too. I buy a box of Borax and Washing Soda every other month, and a few bars of  soap. One batch lasts all month long for my family of 4 with 2 cats and 6 chickens. 1-2 Tbsp will wash an entire load.
