Never Buy Salad Dressing Again...

By Jessica Campbell, MS, FNTP

Here's a one minute video that will break down the very easy peasy process of making salad dressing. My aunt taught me the basics in salad dressing 101 and I have made this basic vinaigrette ever since. The trick is to cover all of the tastes from salty to sweet, sour to spicy, and bitter too. With just a handful of basic ingredients:

  • 2-3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1-2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar (or any other vinegar of choice)
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • and of course a pinch of sea salt

You can have a delicious and healthy salad in minutes. I love to start this dressing in the bottom of a wooden bowl and layer the salad on top. It's an easy job to ask of the kids so they can be the judge of whether you need more oil or dijon. I also let them experiment with adding in different herbs or vinegars and deciding what should go in with our salad greens.

A child that participates in cooking will eat more foods.

I wish that store bought salad dressing could be this simple, however most are full of cheap canola oil, hidden sugars, and weird ingredients that are more than likely not even food. Try this one at home and let me know how you dressed up your salad in the comments below.
