5 Minute French Toast

5 Minute French Toast

This recipe is an easy save for your busy mornings. 5 Minute French Toast is a quick way to get protein into the family when they are bored of eating eggs.

Make sure to find a real soured dough bread: homemade, from a baker or from a label that states it was made from a starter instead of refined white flour and yeast. Souring dough prepares wheat to be eaten safely so as not cause "leaky gut" or gluten sensitivities.

Slice the bread thin while the skillet is heating up to medium heat. We like iron skillets so the only thing leaving the pan is iron instead of non stick toxins. Mix up one egg per person eating and a splash of whole fat milk, cream, almond milk, or coconut milk. Sprinkle in some cinnamon and about a spoon full of vanilla extract. Whip it up and dredge the bread into the mixture while you melt a pat of butter on the skillet.

Cook the bread in the butter for 1 minute on one side and 1 minute on the other side. Voila, breakfast done in 5 minutes. I love French Toast with a little extra butter, but my kids adore a spoonful of real maple syrup. On the weekends we have more time and whip up some cream. Our main goal is always to add as much healthy fat and protein to our breakfast as possible for proper brain fuel.
